Ring of Fire ignited

The southern tip of Africa shone a little brighter last week as the lights at Cape Town's Green Point stadium were turned on for the first time.

Known as the Ring of Fire for its resemblance to a traditional African gourd cooking pot and unique lighting scheme (lights will simulate fire underneath the pot), the seaside stadium will be the largest soccer venue in Africa when completed in December.

Situated against Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain, Green Point will be ready for soccer by the end of January and will hold one of the two semi-finals for the FIFA World Cup™.

The United States MNT hopes to be playing in that game, but even if it isn't, the United States will be represented with big numbers. U.S. fans purchased more then 82,000 tickets to the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ during the initial sales window - more than any other nation other than South Africa.

The countdown to South Africa 2010 has begun, thank you Green Point for illuminating the way!
