President Backs Bid

Have you seen this? The USA bid to get the FIFA World Cup™ back to the United States has a new supporter: President Barack Obama.

In an exclusive interview with Univision's Jorge Ramos at the White House on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, President Barack Obama talked about soccer in America and supported the bid for the United States hosting the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup™.

President Obama pointed out that for years soccer has been extremely popular as a youth sport in the US, and a World Cup™ tournament would only help cement soccer as a premiere sport here. He continued:

"I think that having the world cup here would be huge for the sport in the United States, and I think it would be a wonderful diplomatic coup, where we could show what a wonderful country it is to everybody who participates around the world."

We couldn't agree more.
