USA 1 - Netherlands 2
Despite a late rally, Team USA couldn't muster a win on Wednesday, losing 2-1 to the third-ranked Netherlands.
Carlos Bocanegra scored a nice one, knocking home a header on a DaMarcus Beasley free-kick in the 88th minute, but it wasn't enough to conquer the Flying Dutchmen.
The Dutch controlled the pace of the match though they didn't dominate by any stretch. Jonathan Bornstein had a rough match giving up a penalty kick in the first half and deflecting a Klaas Jan Huntelaar shot that left US goalie Tim Howard standing still in the second half.
Stuart Holden was destined to be man of the match, but late in the first half was recklessly whacked by Netherlands midfielder Nigel de Jong resulting in fractured fibula. Early medical exams have him out of play for approximately six weeks.
The US have two months off to rest their legs, get their heads on straight and find the right lineup before they take on the Czech Republic on May 25 in East Hartford, Connecticut. Tickets go on sale for that match on March 11.
