WNT wins 7th title
Conditions were muddy but the US Women's National Team came away with a clean 3-2 victory over Germany in the Algarve Cup. This is the WNT's seventh Algarve title since the invitational tournament began in Portugal in 1994.
Team USA came flying out of the gate with two goals in the first twenty-two minutes of play.
Carli Lloyd got things started early on after juking defender Lena Goeßling and roping in a shot from the top of the box. Abby Wambach followed up four minutes later by bending a well-struck header past Germany goalkeeper Nadine Angerer.
Germany answered back just before halftime, but a costly mistake by Germany's goalie in the 69th minute gave the US the all important odd goal and game winner.
Congratulations ladies on number seven! Check out the video highlights below.
The WNT takes on Mexico on March 28 in San Diego, California.
