Soccer in Tampa Bay

Pirates once ruled the seas off of Tampa's coast, but now they rule the field: past and present Tampa soccer teams include the Rowdies and the Mutiny. In fact, the Rowdies are experiencing a revival, and are set to be a USL expansion team next year.

Tampa will host both the 2009 and 2010 High School Soccer State Championships, bringing together top young talent from a state with one of the largest youth soccer programs in the country.

Malcolm Glazer, owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, also has a controlling interest in Manchester United.

About Raymond James Stadium

Completed in 1998, Raymond James Stadium is located in Tampa.

With a seating capacity of 65,856, the stadium has played host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL) since 1998, the USF Bulls (NCAA) since 1998, and the Outback Bowl (NCAA) since 1999.

In addition, the stadium was the site of two Super Bowls (2001 and 2009) and the ACC Championship Game in 2008 and 2009.

The stadium is served by HART bus routes.

About Tampa Bay, FL

Once a small fishing village that later became the "Cigar Capital of the World," Tampa Bay has become one of the Sunshine State's most vibrant vacation destinations.

With cool bay breezes and warm sunshine virtually year-round, visitors can choose from the waterfront city's wide array of diversions, from roaring roller coasters at Busch Gardens or rowing down the nature rich Hillsborough River to catching a ball game from the bleachers or catching some rays on the beaches.

Ybor City, Tampa's Latin Quarter, is one of only three National Historic districts in Florida.

Tampa Bay is a community where champions are made.  Residents and visitors alike enthusiastically support four professional teams:  NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2003 Super Bowl champions), NHL Tampa Bay Lightning (2004 Stanley Cup champions), MLB Tampa Bay Rays (2008 World Series runner-up), and the AFL Tampa Bay Storm (2003 Arena Bowl champions).

Tampa will once again play host to a beloved professional soccer franchise in 2010, when the Tampa Bay Rowdies take to the pitch under the United Soccer League.

Tampa Bay offers a diverse selection of attractions, and enough diversions to keep visitors entertained for a weekend or a whole week.

Tampa Bay is home to the best of everything that Florida has to offer.
