Soccer in Nashville

Everyone knows that Nashville loves its country music, but if you spend any time in Tennessee's capital you would know how much they love soccer too.

Founded in 1989 by Lynn Agree and Devinder Sandhu, the Nashville Metros are the longest continuously owned soccer team in the United Soccer Leagues. The team appeared in the U.S. Open Cup in 1998. The Nashville area is also home to Chattanooga FC of the NPSL.

The senior U.S. national team played in Nashville in May 2006 as part of its final warm-up series before the World Cup. The U.S. played Morocco in front of more than 26,000 fans.

About LP Field

Completed in 1999, LP Field is located on the east bank of the Cumberland River, directly across the river from downtown Nashville.

With a seating capacity of 69,143, the stadium has played host to the Tennessee Titans (NFL) and Tennessee State Tigers (NCAA) since 1999.

The stadium also hosts the annual Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl and the annual CMA Music Festival.

In addition, the stadium was the site of the CONCACAF men's qualifying tournament finals for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

In April of 2009, LP Field hosted a World Cup qualifier between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago that attracted 27,959 spectators - a State of Tennessee record for a soccer match.

The Nashville MTA runs an End-Zone Express Shuttle Bus and the Music City Star Train to provide transportation to the stadium.

About Nashville, TN

Many movies have been made about Nashville. Enough books about Music City have been written to fill a bookcase. And, of course, scores of songs are dedicated to the city of music.

But, while music is the lifeblood of Nashville, visitors will also find here a city of culture and history, of haute cuisine, of pro sports, outstanding academics, natural beauty and pure Southern charm.

Nashville is a place where the past and the future peacefully coexist and build, one on the other, to create a destination that appeals to the interests of every visitor.

This city is alive. You can feel its pulse when you walk down its sidewalks. And, fortunately, you can also hear it almost anywhere you go.

Nashville's culturally diverse and friendly environment makes it a favorite place for conventioneers and tourists alike, as well as a great place to work, live and raise a family
