Soccer in Washington

Not all the players in Washington wear suits - a lot of them wear jerseys. DC United is one of the most successful teams in MLS history, having won four MLS Cup Championships and two Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Championships since 1994.
DC's Robert F. Kennedy Stadium has seen its fair share of soccer action. The stadium was one of the key hosts to the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and regularly drew over 50,000 for games involving Mexico, Ireland, Italy and many more. RFK stadium was also home to Team America during their time in the North American Soccer League, and averaged 13,000 fans per game.
The soccer fever extends out to the suburbs. Rockville, Maryland is home to the Real Maryland Monarchs, a powerhouse in the USL Second Division. Alexandria, Virginia is the proud birthplace of defender Clarence Goodson, who played in MLS with FC Dallas before signing with the Norwegian team IK Start. To the south in Virginia, the Winchester Impact of the PASL draws many fans from the DC area.
